The First Blog
Thought I'd tell everyone a bit about myself. I'm self-employed (always looking for work and new clients) as a full service communications firm for corporate and institutional clients. I've been practicing design and communications for over 25 years both on my own and inside the corporate beast. Neither side is ideal. I specialized in print communications but have done some web, tv and radio over the years.I also have been PT teaching graphic design and branding at MICA (The Maryland Institute College of Art) for the past six years. I graduated from there and it is a very fine school. I am currently pursuing a FT position there, but probably won't know anything until the end of May. I really hope I get it as it would be the next great challenge and feels right in this part of my life as the thing to do.
Being on the other side of the classroom (as a student) is different. These first couple of weeks have been sometimes overwhelming, but I believe I might be falling into a rhythum now. I sometimes wonder if my return to school to be too late, we will have to wait and see.
I am not a technical guy. I do follow with interest some of the discussion from the technical side of our class, but that's not my thing. I appreciate technology but have to admit I am a late adopter of things and sometimes decide that I don't need it all, like cable tv. What I do hate about technology is planned obsolescence as a business model forcing me to change before the life cycle of the machine or program.
I keep myself busy with many other activities. Besides my 2 girls getting alot of my time, I'm generally interested in everything. See you all tonight.
